Alan Jackson’s yacht on Jupiter Island

Jupiter Island is home to folks who have the luxury and means to live anywhere in the world.  Many business titans call the Island home, like Lou Gerstner and Richard Fuld.

Most of the homes on Jupiter Island are quiet haunts for old money.  Those folks that simply want to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of their working lives and are comfortable being around such surroundings.

Celebrities like Alan Jackson and Celine Dion have recently begun migrating to the Island.  Jackson, who also owns a home on the Tequesta mainland with a dock long enough to hold his two yachts, lives in an oceanfront estate.  It is currently on the market for $ 14.9 million.

Word is not yet out about his plans, but he does keep two very large yachts in a nearby marina.  His sportfishing boat, “Hullbilly” is docked next to a classic open style yacht which he keeps under cover.  The Hullbilly is so long it’s hard to get a picture of the boat that would do it justice.  Here’s what the transom looks like though.

Elin Nordegren on the beach today

Life here along the Jupiter to Palm Beach Gardens corridor is full of celebrities and it is not uncommon to run into them.  Once at the South Florida Fair, I found Andres Galarraga, The Big Cat, standing in the shadows holding a stuffed bear he won on the midway (maybe throwing baseballs?).  And, I used to run into the Nicklaus boys, Jackie and Gary, quite frequently around Palm Beach Gardens.

Around the Jupiter Inlet, Alan Jackson showed up at the Square Grouper and filmed a video there with Jimmy Buffett who lives on the island of Palm BeachGreg Norman used to travel through the Inlet aboard his sport fishing boat, “Aussie Rules”.  And Alan Jackson keeps his fishing boat, “Hullbilly” close to the Inlet for fast getaways.

While visiting on Jupiter Island one day, I was surprised to see Lee Trevino working on his golf clubs in the garage next door while his caddie, Herman, sat on a cart and I listened as they talked about the behind the scenes happenings on the PGA TourJoe Namath must like Burger King since I have bumped into him there a few times.

Other PGA Tour players in the area include Nick Price, Briny Baird, Steve Marino and Rickie Fowler.

So when Tiger Woods scooped up $ 38 million dollars worth of Jupiter Island real estate to begin building his compound he joined the crowd who discovered our paradise before him.  After his marriage crumbled, Elin Nordegren (ex-Mrs. Tiger Woods) began to hunt for a home and settled on a $ 12.3 oceanfront mansion in Seminole LandingBen Hogan once said that if he could only play one golf course for the rest of his life it would be Seminole.  And Sean Connery has popped in for a round.

The house she purchased was reportedly not economically feasible to restore and since the value was really in the land, it was demolished after she donated $ 300,000 worth of furnishings to Habitat for Humanity in Martin County.  All that’s left is the real estate and the trees.

Today I found her walking the beach near the new home site with a couple of friends, her two kids and their two dogs.  Yogi, the black and white dog seen in past Woods family pictures, came over to visit for awhile after he found something cool in the seaweed.  I took this shot of the group returning up to the construction location.

So, even in an area filled with celebrities it is always a kick to run into another one.  I hope Elin, Tiger, the kids, his mother along with Yogi and his buddy find this area as wonderful as we do.

Alan Jackson puts Jupiter Island estate on the market

Here in the Coastal Florida region celebrities are nothing new.  Blessed with incredible weather, endless beaches, clear oceans and tropical breezes those people who can afford to live anywhere in the world choose South Florida.  Those on the inside track choose Jupiter.

Now Jupiter may not have the glitzy night life of a South Beach area nor attract the Mafia types photographed by the FBI in Ft. Lauderdale in those grainy pictures LIFE magazine would publish but what it does have is without question the finest coastal, waterfront lifestyle on this coast.  Actually, probably in all of Florida but let’s not get a contest going with our West Coast or Panhandle friends.  But I have lived here my entire life so you should trust me.

Perhaps nowhere along the oceanfront is the lifestyle grander than those homes on Jupiter Island.  Here oceanfront estate homes gaze peacefully at the tranquil, blue ocean while those on the Intracoastal side of the Island enjoy the backwater feel.  Some, like Greg Norman, own houses that cut completely across the Island with both ocean and Intracoastal views.  But there are only a few of these, Lee Trevino used to own one, and they cost plenty.  Norman’s house was being offered for sale at $ 65,000,000.

So it was no surprise that Alan Jackson should show up.  He bought a small house on the mainland facing the Intracoastal and parked his two yachts up the street at a secluded marina.  Then, he bought a Jupiter Island oceanfront home, knocked it down and built a mansion.  Now he has put that home on the market for $ 14.9 million.  He also owns a small piece of land across the street where you can dock your yacht if you purchase the house.  I’m sure he wants to sell, but I doubt if the house is on a lockbox!

Valencia in Abacoa, a January sale

Abacoa is planned community on the south side of Jupiter where the Town of Jupiter meets Palm Beach Gardens.  Here, a work/live/play, multi-purpose community was built around the Town Center, the Roger Dean Stadium, Abacoa Golf Club, Florida Atlantic University and Scripps Institute.

Murcielago in the Farms

The lifestyle in Jupiter Farms and our other western communities like Ranch Colony is diverse if nothing else.  Homes in Jupiter Farms are built on 1.25 acres or more and there are no restrictive HOA covenants to cramp your style.  In fact, in one of our communities, Tailwinds, the community has an air strip and people can fly there private planes right up to their back door.  Try that in Abacoa!

Most people tend to think of Jupiter Farms as a very rural area and in fact it is a Dedicated Equestrian area.  This means horses have the right of way.  But the truth is that Jupiter Farms and our western communities spell Freedom.  You can do exactly as you please so people own planes, ride horses, ride motorcycles and ATV’s, dirt bikes and Lamborghinis.

I stopped in the community gas station the other day to find a Murcielago filling up.  While talking with the owner he invited me to sit inside the car and took this picture.

Murcielago

So if you are looking at homes for sale in Jupiter, you might want to change your perspective on the Farms from one of rural homes to one where personal freedom is the cornerstone of your lifestyle.  In fact, several years ago I sold a home here in the Farms and found a spot for their children’s playset, their rabbit, their horse and above ground pool but I could find a home for their small chicken coop and 4 birds.  So I invited them to bring it over to my house where my family has been enjoying fresh eggs for the last 6 years.  And I didn’t have to check with any Boards to see if chickens were allowed.  Try that in Abacoa!

Juno Pier on a beautiful day with great waves

Juno Beach is the next town south of Jupiter.  Here, the beaches widen and condominiums sit directly on the sand with spectacular ocean views.  Jupiter does not have condos right on the ocean, they are across the Beach Road from the sand.  In fact, the condos in Juno are one of the big attractions here along with the Pier and the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

On a beautiful day, the Pier is the place to be with great surfing, lots of fishing action and of course people watching.  Here’s a video I shot on just such a day.

Looking for a home in this area? There are some great opportunities in Juno Isles where some modest single family homes are still within a short drive of the ocean. And many of these homes have ocean access through the Intracoastal Waterway. I can show you any home listed for sale in Juno Isles or along the ocean. You can contact me at coastalflrealestate@gmail.com or directly at 561-762-4073.

Pro golfers continue to call this area home

The weather is perfect, 78 today on January 13, the golf courses plentiful and challenging and all your friends live here.  Maybe this is why so many professional golfers are calling the Jupiter/Tequesta area home.

Coastal Florida Lifestyle!

Coastal Florida Lifestyle!

In just the last few years, Steve Marino, Tiger Woods (and mom and ex-wife) and Rickie Fowler have all relocated to the area.  As an aside, boy is Tiger good for the economy!  He bought $ 38,000,000 worth of properties on Jupiter Island and then commissioned millions of dollars in work there.  He bought his mother a couple of houses, combined the properties, then tore them all down and built her a mansion.  Elin bought the kids a $ 12.3 million dollar home, then tore it down and is building a new home.  She did donate about $300,000 worth of furnishings to Habitat.  And it’s reported he is asking $ 25 million for his yacht “Privacy”.

This week, we learned that Olin Browne, winner of the US Senior Open and Russ Cochran, winner of the Senior British Open, both call Tequesta home.  They were honored with a dinner at Tequesta Country Club.

People who could live anywhere in the world like to call this place home…and you will too!  Looking for a home in this area?  I’ve lived here 22 years and can show you the best values and locations.  And there are some great opportunities out there right now.  Contact me at 561-762-4073 or visit www.coastalflrealestate.com.

Record highs today…no snow here. When are you coming?

Life along the southeast Florida coast is great and no place is better than Jupiter.  I have lived here 21 years and grew up in South Florida and this is the best of the best!  And although it is almost January, we have yet to feel any really cold weather.  Well, cold for us.

Like in the 50′s.

Juno Beach Pier

Juno Beach Pier

Some cooler weather would be welcome though.  It helps make the citrus sweet and during hiking and biking trips around places like Riverbend Park and Hungryland, you don’t get so hot.  You can see videos I have produced on the lifestyle here at www.youtube.com/richardsites.

Live oak in Jupiter

Live oak in Jupiter

I always feel sorry for those folks trying to travel when I see the rotten weather along the eastern seaboard like they are having  today.  Once, when taking the family on a skiing vacation, we got stuck for about 8 hours in North Carolina and I remember thinking I don’t want to spend another day like that one.

But down here in Jupiter, things are plugging right along.  The beaches are the place to be for the northern tourists and the golf courses are still packed.  Fisherman are hunting cobia along the beaches.  Cobia, one of the finest eating fish, follow migrating rays along the beaches and they are easy to catch once spotted.

Paddleboarding has gotten to be a very popular sport around here.  And the wind has been blowing from the west so it’s been very glassy along the beach and great for enjoying this sport.

If you think this sounds like a great place to live, you’re right.  Tired of shoveling snow?  Come on down.  Unlike many agents I have lived here 21 years and I can show you the best locations and there are some great opportunities out there right now.  Plan to come to town this season?  Let’s get together. Contact me at 561-762-4073.

Tiger drops in at local school, good thing someone had a camera

Jupiter Island has long been home to some of the biggest, if not the most quiet, names in the country.  The list of notables that call the Island home will fill the social register anywhere.  No perhaps no better known than Tiger Woods.  Woods capped a week when he won his first tournament in more than two years by checking in on another success: the Tiger Woods Learning Center at Murray Middle School.

Woods made an unpublicized visit to the program visiting with students, teachers and administrators and taking part in a forensics class as sixth- and seventh-graders in the program demonstrated fingerprinting to an eighth-grade science class.

“At first none of the students knew who he was,” Principal Kit Weir said, “and then one kid recognized him and shouted, ‘That’s Tiger Woods!’ Then they all started screaming.”

Tiger bought the old Chuck Curcio mansion on Jupiter Island, then 4 other surrounding parcels, moved trees around and built a massive compound complete with golf hole for practicing.  He also assembled a couple of large properties in Jupiter and built another massive, walled compound for his mom.

Thinking about homes for sale on Jupiter Island?  I can show you any home listed by any broker and unlike many agents have lived here 21 years and can show you the best values and locations.  You can reach me at 561-762-4073 or coastalfloridarealestate1@gmail.com.
